Electrocardiogram (EKG)

Fast, painless electrocardiogram (EKG) to evaluate your heart health, in Spanish.

Electrocardiogram (EKG)
  • Fast and painless test
  • Heart-rhythm evaluation
  • Useful for medical exams
  • Results in Spanish

An electrocardiogram records your heart's electrical activity in a few minutes, painlessly and with no preparation. It is done at the clinic and interpreted on site by medical staff.

What is the test like?

You lie down, ten adhesive electrodes are placed on your chest, arms and legs, and the machine records the tracing while you breathe normally. It takes about five minutes. No current is applied: the device only listens to the signal your heart already produces.

What is it for?

To check rhythm (fast, slow or irregular), detect signs of previous damage and evaluate symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath or chest pain on exertion. It is also requested as part of work, sports or pre-surgical exams.

What does it not detect?

A normal EKG does not rule out everything. Many arrhythmias come and go, and some artery blockages do not show at rest. That is why it is read alongside your symptoms, blood pressure and lab work, and a cardiology referral is guided when needed.

When should I go to the ER instead?

If you have chest pain right now, especially with cold sweats, shortness of breath or pain radiating to the arm or jaw, do not drive to the clinic: call 911. Minutes matter there.

Do I need a doctor's order?

No. You can request it directly if your job, your sport or an upcoming surgery requires it, and it is also done within a visit when symptoms justify it. In both cases you get the tracing and its interpretation.
