- After-care explained
A subdermal implant is removed with local anesthesia in the same visit. At La Michoacana we do it walk-in, in Spanish, and explain what to expect afterward and what your options are if you want to stay on a birth control method.
When should it come out?
When it reaches the end of its lifespan, when you want to get pregnant, or when the method is causing side effects that are not improving, such as irregular bleeding you are tired of. Also if the implant feels bent or out of place.
What does the procedure involve?
The implant is located by touch, the area is cleaned and local anesthesia is given: you feel the pinch, then pressure, not pain. A small incision is made, the implant comes out and the site is bandaged. It takes a few minutes and you walk out.
What aftercare is needed?
Keep the bandage dry for 24 hours, avoid lifting weight with that arm for two or three days, and watch the area. Bruising is normal. If you get spreading redness, pus or fever, come back: that does need to be checked.
What if I want to stay protected?
You can switch methods the same day. We go over the options available here, such as pills or the injection, at the birth control visit.
Do you remove implants placed at another clinic?
Yes, as long as it can be located by touch and sits in its usual spot on the arm. If it is deep, has moved or cannot be felt, it is not attempted blind: forcing the search is what leaves a scar.
Why come to La Michoacana?
We are on Spencer Hwy, at 6500 Ste 180, just off Highway 225 and minutes from Deer Park, South Houston and La Porte. No appointment and no insurance needed. Our whole team speaks Spanish, parking is free and the entrance is wheelchair accessible.
How payment works
You pay per visit, with no insurance involved. We take cash, debit cards, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover) and phone payments. We do not take checks.
